Dear Friends of Rio del Cambio

The 6th Annual Rio del Cambio Fundraising Festival was once again a great success! We were blessed with perfect weather, a wonderful backyard BBQ by Redline Brewhouse, and amazing live music compliments of Randolph and The Rivieras, and Canadian gem My Son the Hurricane. The evening was a blend of education and entertainment during which guests learned about the ongoing work of Rio del Cambio in Citalapa, Nicaragua.

A special Thank you to a few people that help make this event such a success – Randy Parsons who continues to fill the evening with exceptional music, energy and passion. Kevin Lamb for his wonderful pictures of the evening, Chef Chris who served a perfect summer BBQ dinner and of course, my family – Doug, Devon and Darci – that pull all the last minute details together so I can have a quick nap before the party begins!

This event is the major fundraiser for Rio del Cambio for the coming year. The evening raised over $10,000 and more donations continue to be received daily. The timing of this event is crucial as we are halfway through the school year and new notebooks, pens, pencils and general supplies are needed for the Education Program. Over the past 5 years, Rio del Cambio has provided education to over 120 students in grade 1-6, high school and now 2 in university. We also built a school for the community in 2014 which has given the children shelter from the intense sun and pounding rain. This building also acts as a community centre for English classes, the Sewing Ladies, and meetings for the farmers in the Farmer’s Co-operative.

Rio del Cambio’s primary focus and priority is Education. One way that you can continue to support this initiative is by Sponsoring a Child. For just $100 a year – or less than $2 per week – you can sponsor a child which will help to keep a child in school for a whole year. This program has given the children of Citalapa a new hope for the future and purpose which has proven to help reduce early pregnancy and prostitution, and significantly reduce drug and alcohol addiction.

Traditionally, generous people like yourselves make their donation in either January before the beginning of the school year in mid February or at the Annual Rio del Cambio Fundraising Festival. To re-sponsor your child for 2016 or begin to sponsor a child, there are a number of ways that you may do so –

1) Visit http://riodelcambio.org/make-a-difference/ and make a donation through Paypal

2) etransfer to info@riodelcambio.org

3) Mail a cheque to 3714 20th Sideroad, Innisfil, Ontario L9S 2Y1 c/o Kari Williams
Please make cheques out to “Rio del Cambio”

Rio del Cambio is a “social enterprise”, not a registered Charitable Organization. Therefore, we do not give income tax receipts. However, as a small, grass-roots organization, I can personally guarantee that every dollar donated goes directly to the village and people of Citalapa. All administrative costs are covered by Kari and Doug Williams including personal travel expenses, website expenses, accounting fees and any print costs. The price of a ticket to the Annual Rio del Cambio Fundraising Festival is the only event that money collected is used to help cover the cost of food and entertainment. Giving to Rio del Cambio is truly a gift from the heart and together, we are making a difference in the village of Citalapa.

Thank you to each and everyone of you that continues to give so generously to Rio del Cambio. Your support and trust in this adventure and challenging initiative is greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to contact me at info@riodelcambio.org if you have any questions or inquiries.

Sincerely,

Kari Williams
